Quick update: SMLR is on hold for a few more weeks. Uber-busy right now trying to finish my thesis for school, don't really have time or energy for extra writing. Pulling 15 hour days at the library. Neck hurts. eyes are sore. brain tired and dull. Hopefully should be back up online by Thanksgiving weekend.
SMLR: 14 Oct
Phil, this one's for you... This morning I drank French Market Chickory Coffee, medium-dark roast, brewed via pourover. I'll hit the pros first: 1) five bucks a can at most chain grocery stores, 2) it's pre-ground, so you don't need to burn those precious watts or calories grinding the beans., and 3) the chickory flavor … Continue reading SMLR: 14 Oct
SMLR: 08 Oct
This morning I'm drinking the only coffee left in my inventory that I haven't already reviewed here: Thanksgiving Coffee's Ethiopia Halo Bariti. It's not as powerful as the Byron's Natural (see SMLR from 09 Sept), but it's more mellow and smooth . Still get that nice complex "fruity" (sorry, but there's no other good word … Continue reading SMLR: 08 Oct
SMLR: 30 Sep
I'm writing this morning from Westside Coffee House in Logan Utah. My coffee is the house light roast pourover from Costa Rica. That's all I know about it. It's tasty though, and it hits the spot on this crisp morning in northern Utah. // I have tin-man legs today. I finished the Bear 100 miler … Continue reading SMLR: 30 Sep
The Bear tomorrow
I'm in Logan, Utah in a hotel room about to go down for the night. I flew from San Jose to SLC early this morning, met up with Greg, and then drove to Logan. Tomorrow (Friday) morning at 6am we start the Bear 100 mile trail race. I hope to finish sometime early Saturday morning. … Continue reading The Bear tomorrow
Monday morning Light Roast, 24 Sept
Another late version of SMLR. Sunday mornings have been my sleep catch-up day, so SMLR gets bumped right. I'm still on the "post-every-week" wagon though... // My coffee this morning is Henry's House of Coffee - Kenya. I ran across this coffee in Safeway, and decided to give a go. The roast is a good … Continue reading Monday morning Light Roast, 24 Sept
Sunday Morning Light Roast, 16 Sept
My coffee today is Counter Culture Apollo. I used to drink this coffee a few years ago, and just recently picked up a bag after a long hiatus. It's still good. A blend of several Ethiopian beans, it is self-described as "citrus, floral, and silky." I'll describe it as smooth, light-medium body, and easy drinking. … Continue reading Sunday Morning Light Roast, 16 Sept
Sunday Morning Light Roast, 09 Sep
My coffee this morning is Byron's Natural, Organic Light Roast. I'm sipping on my second cup of it right now. The Byron's Natural bean comes from Nicaragua, and is roasted by the Thanksgiving Coffee Company, out of Fort Bragg, CA. I just found this company a week ago, and I like their huge variety of … Continue reading Sunday Morning Light Roast, 09 Sep
Sunday Morning Light Roast (Monday edition). 03 Sept
In an effort to post regular content, I'm starting a new weekly column, which I will post every Sunday morning. Here's the concept: wake up, have my (first) cup of coffee, and then write for an hour. It may be interesting and coherent, or it may be rambling and disjointed. Either way, I will write … Continue reading Sunday Morning Light Roast (Monday edition). 03 Sept
