I’m in Logan, Utah in a hotel room about to go down for the night. I flew from San Jose to SLC early this morning, met up with Greg, and then drove to Logan.
Tomorrow (Friday) morning at 6am we start the Bear 100 mile trail race. I hope to finish sometime early Saturday morning. I feel ready and rested, despite a bit of a sluggish shakeout jog today. I’ve studied the course, and all my drop bags are turned in. All that’s left to do is go out and run.
My strategy is more or less the same as last year’s 100: go easy but efficient for 50 miles, then reassess and try to keep up the effort in the second half. I’d love to keep my split for the second half within an hour of the first half split. Weather looks good tomorrow, but they said a few times during the pre-race meeting that it will be hotter than normal. Roberta is coming out to mile 75 and the finish.
That’s it for now…not too much with this pre-race post, but I said I’d post one so I’m sticking to that word. My whole running year – really since Christmas last year – essentially culminates tomorrow. I don’t feel any pressure though….I am really just looking forward to the opportunity to push myself on new trails in some scenic mountains.
